Boxed Heart Timbers

Douglas Fir 20"x20"

Structurally sound and commonly used in timber frame construction, boxed heart or heart centered timbers are cut incorporating the heart centre of the log.  They are slightly less expensive than Free of Heart timbers because they are easier to cut from smaller logs, and occassionaly, over time, they have the potential to check as the timber ages.  They still retain their structural integrity, however and typically, 8x8’s and up are cut as boxed heart timbers.  Box heart timbers start at $1.60 per board foot.
